
It is a major day for religious freedom. The Church of Scientology—for many years in Germany the prototype of a “cult” whose religious status people sought to contest—is no longer under surveillance. According to the press, the official reasoning is that the organization has lost its significance. In my opinion, this is merely a pretext to avoid admitting that they could never prove criminal structures, unconstitutionality, or the actual existence of a “sect.”
